Few offices have the devotion to detail that a Japanese publisher does. Every fact, every tense, every comma is scrutinised before going to print. It is something akin to craftsmanship — learning to treat each text on its own terms, and do it right the first time. There is no fixing it in the second edition.

Writing

Name it. I can write it.

My work has required me to produce a broad diversity of texts — from academic essays to product copy, from news stories to fiction. I have always had an ear for voice and style, and the ability to recreate them. A large part of my work has been writing for audio, requiring me to write mock radio broadcasts, casual dialogues, science lectures, and even an ongoing serial audio drama.

Proofreading and Editing

As the arts editor at Tokyo Weekender Magazine, I did bi-weekly reviews of arts events in all disciplines. I found the shows, built up a book of contacts at galleries, museums, and arts organisations, and developed a deep and abiding love and knowledge of Japanese and Asian contemporary art. I also wrote feature articles, paid advertisements, and interviews. I cannot abide a typo, and have a stack of well-loved style guides from Chicago to Oxford, and AP to the NYT. So, whether it is fiction, essay, or educational materials, I will sharpen your text to a cutting edge.
